Abscess of a brain - a focal clump of pus in substance of a brain.
Etiology, pathogenesis. The abscess arises as complication of damages of a skull, develops owing to diffusion of an infection from the abscesses located in immediate proximity to a brain, or drift of the infected microembolus from the centers of a purulent infection and at a septicopyemia. The abscess of a brain is localized in a temporal share or in a cerebellum. The reason of an abscess second on frequency - purulent diseases of lungs.
Signs, current. The beginning of disease is usually characterized by a picture of a purulent meningocephalitis: the general grave condition, an intensive headache, a vomiting, a heat, meningeal signs, the polynuclear leukocytosis, the moderate pleocytosis in a cerebrospinal liquid. At high activity of the originator there is a fusion of a cerebral tissue and around of the formed cavity filled by pus, the capsule of an abscess gradually is formed. By the moment of its full development (in 4-6 weeks) the general infectious signs usually remit also the condition of the patient improves. In the further the intracranial hypertensia and signs of a focal lesion of a brain gradually accrue. In half of cases congestive disks of optic nerves are marked. The cerebrospinal liquid at incapsulation of an abscess is changed a little or not changed completely not.
