Ankylosis - an immovability in a joint as an outcome of pathological changes in itself. Results from inflammatory changes in a joint, and also after the serious intraarticulate fractures bound to destruction of articulate surfaces. Especially often the ankylosis is formed after the open traumas of the joint, accompanied development in itself is long current process. Thus there comes a degeneration of a cartilaginous integument of articulate surfaces with growth connecting fibrous (false ankylosis) or osteal (an osteal ankylosis) tissues. Long stay in a plaster bandage also promotes occurrence of an ankylosis of a joint.
