Hypervitaminosis D - the condition arising at an overdosage of vitamin D or raised individual sensitivity to them with development of a symptom-complex of a D-vitamin intoxication.
Etiology. Application of greater doses of vitamin D for treatment or prophylaxes; usually total dose above 1 million ME. Sometimes the hypervitaminosis is caused also with small doses (4-8 thousand ME) that explain a hypersensibility to vitamin D.
Pathogenesis. The core is toxic action of vitamin D on cellular membranes, disturbance of a metabolism with development of a hypercalcemia and a hypercalcuria, a hyperphosphaturia, an acidosis, a calcification of tissues and internal organs.
Clinical picture. Absence of appetite, a vomiting combined constipations, a delay of physical development, thirst, a polyuria. The child is raised, then becomes flaccid, cramps, rising of arterial pressure, retardation of pulse can be observed.
